A winter holiday in the Ziller valley doesn’t have to be just about skiing. There are plenty of other activities snow aficionados can enjoy. Cross-country skiers will find 125 kilometres of well-groomed cross-country ski trails for traditional and skating styles. Don’t miss out on a fun tobogganing adventure during your winter holiday. The Zillertal offers 14 different toboggan runs – some of them are flood-lit. Nothing stands in the way of an entertaining evening in one of the many mountain huts, rounded off with an exhilarating toboggan ride.
A little less exciting but no less beautiful is a winter hiking tour on 400 kilometres of well maintained and cleared hiking trails. Here you can get to know a different side of the Zillertal and enjoy the peaceful and quiet landscape. If you love to tread through virgin snow, a snowshoe hike to one of the summits might be just the right activity for you. Ski touring would also be a perfect alternative. After a climb to reach the summit, and a breathtaking view of the mountains, what could be more rewarding than skiing down untouched off-piste terrain. If you would like to try it yourself, we recommend you to book a ski guide who can let you in on the secrets of ski touring.
Ice skating is easy to learn – just try it at one of the many ice rinks through out the valley. And curling doesn’t even require skates. This traditional sport is a fun activity for young and old alike. It is also a perfect way to round off an exciting day on the slopes. How about a horse-drawn sleigh ride to discover the winter wonderland wrapped in warm blankets?
After all, what’s more romantic than snow-covered forests and meadows, glistening in the sunlight? There is plenty of action for you to be enjoyed on your winter holiday in the Zillertal. Action fans can get a birds-eye view and try paragliding. Extreme sports enthusiasts might want to consider an ice climbing tour up a frozen waterfall. Ideally you’re accompanied by a professional – just to be safe and fully enjoy the experience.
